Ringing the BELL: Vibes Juice Bar & Café: A Fresh Take on Community and Wellness

The Black Economic Leadership League (B.E.L.L.) of Rock Hill is committed to empowering Black entrepreneurs and fostering community-driven business development.

In the heart of Rock Hill, Vibes Juice Bar & Café is more than just a place to grab a smoothie—it’s a movement toward healthier living, community support, and Black entrepreneurship. Under the leadership of Tamisala "Mek" McCrorey, Vibes continues to grow, providing fresh, nourishing options while fostering connections with local farmers, businesses, and the community.

A Vision Rooted in Health and Community

Vibes Juice Bar & Café operates with a clear mission:

  1. To provide the community with healthy food, juices, and smoothies made from the freshest ingredients.

  2. To educate the community on the benefits of clean eating and a healthier lifestyle.

  3. To support local farmers and small businesses across South Carolina and North Carolina.

While Charlotte Brown first envisioned the concept and Ken Bowden later nurtured it, Mek, alongside her husband and the dedicated team members who stood by her through the transition of ownership, embraced the opportunity to build upon the original foundation and expand its impact. With deep respect for the journey that came before her, she has continued to elevate Vibes into a thriving health-conscious hub for the community.

The Entrepreneurial Journey: Continuing a Legacy

Entrepreneurship runs deep in Mek’s blood. Growing up in a family of business owners—from her grandfather’s neighborhood store to her parents’ restaurant—Mek was surrounded by examples of hard work, perseverance, and innovation. Stepping into ownership of Vibes Juice Bar felt like a natural extension of her family's legacy.

Since taking over, Mek has worked tirelessly to evolve the business. What began as a learning curve soon transformed into a mission-driven enterprise. She has expanded the menu, strengthened customer relationships, and leveraged digital marketing strategies to stay competitive. With each challenge, she has adapted, growing both as a business owner and a community leader.

Challenges and Triumphs

Owning a business comes with its share of obstacles, and for Mek, managing uncertainty and risk has been one of the toughest aspects. Whether dealing with industry shifts or unexpected setbacks, she has learned to navigate the highs and lows with resilience.

As a Black business owner, access to capital and breaking into established networks presented additional challenges. However, Mek leaned into her community, built strong relationships, and sought mentorship from those who understood the unique hurdles of Black entrepreneurship. By proving her business’s value through consistency and hard work, she continues to break barriers and redefine success.

The Power of Community & BELL’s Support

Vibes Juice Bar & Café is not just about serving great food—it’s about fostering a sense of belonging. Mek believes that strong businesses are built on strong relationships, and she actively engages with local initiatives, collaborates with other entrepreneurs, and gives back to the very people who support her business.

Organizations like the Black Economic Leadership League (BELL) have played a pivotal role in her journey. Through mentorship, networking opportunities, and business development programs, BELL has provided Mek with valuable resources to grow and refine her business. Their support has not only helped her strengthen business operations but also empowered her to think bigger and expand her impact.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Vibes?

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Vibes Juice Bar & Café. Plans are underway to expand menu offerings, enhance digital presence, and transform the Herlong location into more than just a café—a community hub for events and gatherings. As Vibes continues to evolve, Mek remains committed to providing fresh, healthy options while deepening the café’s role in the local community.

For those dreaming of starting their own businesses, Mek’s advice is simple: Stay resilient, believe in your vision, and never let challenges define you. Seek out resources, surround yourself with a supportive network, and continuously invest in your growth.
