Ringing the BELL: Building Something That Lasts- Antonio Knox and One Community Insurance Agency
For Antonio Knox, entrepreneurship is about much more than owning a business. It is about creating something that protects people, strengthens families, and contributes to the economic health of the community.
As founder of One Community Insurance Agency LLC, Antonio helps individuals, families, and business owners navigate decisions around health insurance, Medicare, life insurance, supplemental coverage, and employee benefits. At the center of that work is education. Antonio saw too many people making important insurance decisions without fully understanding what they were purchasing or how those decisions could affect their long-term financial stability. He believed there was an opportunity to create something different: an agency built around clarity, relationships, and helping people protect what they are working so hard to build.
From Employment to Ownership
Antonio credits his first mentor, Earl Hunter, with helping him see entrepreneurship differently. Through Earl's example, he began to understand ownership as an opportunity to create impact, build something lasting, and take greater responsibility for his own future.
That lesson continues to shape how Antonio approaches entrepreneurship today. When asked to describe the journey in five words, his answer was simple: “Ownership. Discipline. Vision. Risk. Legacy.”
His business has evolved alongside that mindset. One Community Insurance began with Antonio helping individuals navigate health insurance while learning the operational realities of running an agency. Over time, the company expanded into Medicare, life insurance, supplemental coverage, and group health benefits. The work shifted from helping clients enroll in policies to helping families protect wealth and business owners create sustainable benefit structures.
Thinking Like an Owner
One of the defining moments in Antonio's journey came when he stopped thinking solely like an insurance agent and began thinking like a business owner.
Early on, success could be measured by enrollments and production. But Antonio realized that building something sustainable required systems, infrastructure, compliance, client education, strong referral networks, and long-term strategy.
Instead of asking how many policies he could write in a month, he began asking a different question: “How do I build something that lasts ten years?”
That shift has helped One Community Insurance grow into a community-centered agency with stronger systems, more intentional marketing, and deeper partnerships. Antonio is now focused on expanding the agency's footprint into North Carolina while continuing to strengthen its presence in Rock Hill.
Community as a Business Strategy
Community has remained central throughout that growth. Antonio sees the relationships he has developed with families, entrepreneurs, pastors, nonprofit leaders, and other business owners as partnerships rooted in trust, not simply sources of referrals.
That philosophy has also shaped his experience with B.E.L.L.
Through B.E.L.L., Antonio says he has connected with Black business owners in the community he did not previously know, expanding his referral network and creating new opportunities for collaboration. For him, those relationships reinforce an important lesson about entrepreneurship: sometimes growth comes not from funding, but from being connected to people who are aligned, ambitious, and committed to seeing one another succeed.
Building With Legacy in Mind
Antonio's advice to aspiring Black entrepreneurs reflects the lessons that have shaped his own journey: master your craft, understand your numbers, develop systems early, prioritize relationships, and think beyond immediate income.
“Don't just chase income; build infrastructure. Build something that can outlast you.”
That long-term perspective captures what Antonio is building through One Community Insurance. The vision is not simply to grow an insurance agency, but to become a trusted economic partner that helps protect families, strengthen businesses, and contribute to greater stability throughout the community.
For B.E.L.L., continuing to tell stories like Antonio's is an important reminder of what becomes possible when entrepreneurs have access to relationships, visibility, resources, and a community invested in their success.
